The Boys Are Back In Town, A Family Christmas, Portrait Photographer
With all of the boys together over Christmas, it was the perfect time to capture some updated family photographs with the W family.
Of course with the cold Minnesota winters, this means bringing lighting equipment indoors and figuring out the best way to produce a great end result on location.
For this first photograph, I wanted to create a lifestyle shot of the three brothers together again playing video games. I used two lights to create the shot.
- My main light was a PCB Einstein fired through a small umbrella as my main light. This was positioned behind me and pointing up to the ceiling for a little bounce diffusion.
- The area in front of the boys was dark so I added a Canon 580 EXII speedlite on the floor, fired by a PocketWizard FlexTT5, pointed up at the ceiling. This allowed me to bring out the room decor, feature the hockey jerseys on the wall and create some additional drama and separation.
The following shots were created in the living room, with the intent of involving the tree and Christmas decorations. Most of these shots were lit using two PCB Einstein's. The main light was above camera, using a Westcott 43" Apollo Orb as the modifier. The second light was positioned camera right using a large 4' shoot-through umbrella for some additional fill light.
